Description of the IEEE Parent Society

IEEE YP (Young Professionals) is a peer group of recent graduates and young engineers. The purpose of YP is to help young engineers bridge the transition from school to work life. YP gives young engineers an opportunity to network with their colleagues and attend events pertaining to their interest.

Anyone who has graduated from University within last decade automatically becomes a member of YP.

Vision Statement: IEEE Young Professionals is an international community of enthusiastic, dynamic, and innovative members and volunteers.

Mission Statement: IEEE is committed to helping young professionals evaluate their career goals, polish their professional image, and create the building blocks of a lifelong and diverse professional network.

Goals / Focus

The mission of the IEEE Canadian Atlantic Section YP affinity group is TBD based on feedback of its members.  Generally, IEEE YP address personal and professional needs of recent graduates (networking, career development and exploration, personal management), and to provide young professionals with the opportunities to contribute to the engineering community and to develop their non-technical skills.

History

The IEEE Graduates of the Last Decade (GOLD) was created in 1996 as a membership program to help students transition to young professionals within the larger IEEE community.  In 2014 IEEE GOLD became IEEE Young Professionals (YP) to make the group more recognizable to IEEE members.
