Call for Nominations for Section and IEEE Canada Awards & Fellows

This an open call for nominations for the three IEEE Canadian Atlantic Section awards, to be presented at the AGM in November. The CAS Awards are:

The Murugan Memorial Award

The Murugan Memorial Medal was established in June of 1986, one year after the tragic and untimely death of its namesake, Gnanendran Murugan, Chairman of the IEEE Canadian Atlantic Section 1983-84. The Medal is presented on an annual basis to “the member who best demonstrates the qualities of professionalism and dedication to the purposes of the IEEE“.

This Bronze Medal is awarded to the member who, in the opinion of the awards committee, best demonstrates the qualities of professionalism, integrity, and dedication to the purposes of the IEEE. The Medal may not be awarded in any particular year.

Outstanding Engineering Achievement Award

The Canadian Atlantic Section will provide an Outstanding Engineering Achievement Award, in the form of a plaque, to an outstanding engineer recognized by the Canadian Atlantic Section who has shared their technical and professional abilities (in industry, government or an institution of higher learning) and, in doing so, has made an outstanding contribution to engineering within the territory of the Canadian Atlantic Section. The outstanding engineering achievement award may not be awarded in any particular year

Outstanding Industrial Contribution Award

The Canadian Atlantic Section will provide an Outstanding Industrial Contribution Award, in the form of a plaque, to an industry professional and practitioner in an area of significant interest and importance to the IEEE residing within the territory of the IEEE Canadian Atlantic Section who, through technical abilities and professional conduct, has made an outstanding contribution to the technology profession in the Canadian Atlantic Section. The Outstanding Industrial Contribution Award may not be awarded in any particular year.

Nominations must be received no later than October 30, 2011.

This is also an open call for nominations for the IEEE Canada Awards. The nominations committee will be putting forward, and the section will be endorsing, up to one individual for each of the following IEEE Canada Awards. Nominations to the section for the IEEE Canada awards are due no later than November 15, 2011.

IEEE Canada Achievement Awards

A.G.L. McNaughton Award

Recipients of this medal are outstanding Canadian engineers recognized for their exemplary contributions to the engineering profession.

R.A. Fessenden Award

Recipients of this medal are outstanding Canadian engineers recognized for their important contributions to the field of telecommunications engineering.

Electric Power Award

Recipients of this medal are outstanding Canadian engineers recognized for their important contributions to the field of electric power engineering.

Computer Award

Recipients of this medal are outstanding Canadian engineers recognized for their important contributions to the field of computer engineering and science.

Outstanding Engineer Award

Recipients of this medal are outstanding Canadian engineers recognized for their important contributions to Electrical and Electronics Engineering. Normally not available to candidates in telecommunications engineering, power engineering, or computer engineering or science.

Outstanding Engineering Educator Award

Recipients of this medal are outstanding Canadian engineers recognized for sharing their technical and professional abilities through teaching (in industry, government or an institution of higher learning) and in doing so have made an outstanding contribution to engineering education.

R.H. Tanner Industry Leadership Award

Recipients of this medal are outstanding Canadian professionals recognized for their important leadership contributions in Canadian industry where there is significant activity in areas of interest to IEEE.

IEEE Canada Service Awards

W.S. Read Outstanding Service Award

Recipients of this award are exceptional IEEE volunteers who are recognized for outstanding and sustained service to IEEE Canada and the Institute.

J.J. Archambault Eastern Canada Merit Award

Recipients of this award are exceptional IEEE volunteers who are recognized for meritorious service in eastern Canada at the local IEEE Section and Area level.

M.B. Broughton Central Canada Merit Award

Recipients of this award are exceptional IEEE volunteers who are recognized for meritorious service in central Canada at the local IEEE Section and Area level.

E.F. Glass Western Canada Merit Award

Recipients of this award are exceptional IEEE volunteers who are recognized for meritorious service in western Canada at the local IEEE Section and Area level.
