The IEEE Canadian Atlantic Section Power and Energy Society/Industry Applications Society Joint Chapter and Oceanic Engineering Society Chapter wish to invite you to the following seminar event.

Title: ODIM Brooke Ocean Presentation
Speakers: Geoff Lebans, Director, ODIM Brooke Ocean
Jamie Townsend, Jr. Electrical Engineer, ODIM Brooke Ocean
Time: 12:00pm-1:00pm, Thursday, April 15, 2010
Place: Room B310, Sexton Campus, Dalhousie University, 1360 Barrington St., Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada

Abstract:

ODIM Brooke Ocean is part of the ODIM group of companies, a world leader in the supply of automated handling equipment (hardware to allow payloads and sensors to be safely deployed, recovered and stowed from a ship at sea).

The presentation will describe a number of applications, with an emphasis on how automation and robotics are utilized to improve safety and efficiency. This will include technologies we have developed for oceanography, sea floor surveying, mine countermeasures, anti-submarine warfare, seismic surveying, and offshore oil & gas.

About the Speaker:

Geoff Lebans is a senior engineer and director of ODIM Brooke Ocean. He was a co-owner of Brooke Ocean Technology from 1990 until the company was acquired by ODIM in 2006. He has a science degree from Mount Allison University and a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from the Technical University of Nova Scotia. Mr. Lebans has worked in the marine technology sector for his entire career, with the majority of this time spent on the design and development of shipboard launch/recovery systems, cable handling hardware and towed systems. Most recently, he has been involved with the development of launch/recovery systems for unmanned marine vehicles.

Jamie Townsend is a Jr. Electrical Engineer at ODIM Brooke Ocean. He received his B.A.Sc. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Ottawa in 2008. During the course of his studies at the University of Ottawa he had the opportunity to hold co-op work positions with the Department of National Defence, the Canada Border Services Agency and Dalhousie University. He joined the ODIM Brooke Ocean’s team in 2008 and is presently involved in the design, testing and production processes of several ODIM product lines. In addition to his production duties, a significant amount of Jamie’s time is spent in the field; installing or servicing systems and training clients.

This presentation is an event hosted by the Power and Energy Society/Industry Applications Society Joint Chapter and Oceanic Engineering Society Chapter of the Canadian Atlantic Section of the IEEE and is open to the general public.
